I Left My Heart in San Francisco

Part 1 of our trip home from Allen and Caitlin's wedding was San Francisco. What a cool place! The city is so cool looking, the ocean amazing, and we didn't see any freaks. We've decided we are moving there.... we are going to live in one of the condos by the bay. Anyone got a million dollars?
Here we are at the famous Pier 39. You can see Alcatraz in the background.

You will notice that in all of pictures I'm basically wearing the same thing. That is because the one sweatshirt I threw into my luggage at the last moment ended up very handy when the weather was kinda chilly and windy the whole time.

On Pier 39 we ran into the most hilarious seals. No, he's not dead, he's sunning himself.

The Golden Gate bridge!

And a real cable car.

These guys were amazing. People had to go up and touch them to see if they were real.
The sea food was to die for.

The perfect store for me.

Yum!

Happiness is chocolate.

Chocolate ice cream with dark chocolate fudge in a chocolate cone. We love you San Francisco!

A New Addition

What a special day! On May 23, 2009, my favorite brother married his sweetheart, Caitlin. It was such a beautiful ceremony and I was so grateful to have been there. I can't wait to get to know you better, Caitlin, and I am so happy for the two of you.

You two know that now you have to start a blog, right? It's like getting instant gratification for keeping a family history. And moms love it.

Pu-leeeeze, People!

I know it's pathetic to post about such a thing. Obviously I'm neglecting something I should be doing. However, I am going to die if I see another misuse of an apostrophe. I know I'm not the grammar queen and I'm sure there are plenty of mistakes I am making even as I write this very post, but cummon!

Can you see the problem in this picture? Does your skin crawl? Do you start feeling nauseous? Now, like I said, I'm not a grammar snob. I don't particularly care if you dangle your who-zee-what. Use lay incorrectly! Mix up effect and affect! Write everything in abbreviations and don't capitalize! But I can't stand it when an 's is used the wrong way. If you are unsure of your apostrophe usage, may I kindly direct you to Grammar Girl. Then you can go back, read my posts, and lecture me on my writing problems. I don't mind, I deserve it after this.

And now to end this drivel, here's a song:

Apostrophe (Oh Christmas Tree)
by Eileen Thorpe

Apostrophe, apostrophe
You drive me oh so batty.
Apostrophe, apostrophe
Your overuse is a travesty.
Some people just can’t get enough
They must think you’re hot stuff
Apostrophe, apostrophe
Some rules to avoid catastrophe.

It’s hers and theirs and yours and its
When you want to possess a bit
And when you need to pluralize,
You don’t need to apostrophize.
And what of words that end in esess?
An apostrophe will only make a mess’s.

I wonder why you so confuse
I’m sure you’re tired of this abuse.
Apostrophe, apostrophe
You drive me oh so batty.

Top 10 Reasons I Love My Mom

10. She thinks I'm funny.
9. She also likes shoes.
8. She pretends she isn't tired when I call her at midnight with something that CAN'T wait.
7. She asks me what I'm going to wear to special events- not because she is concerned about what I wear or don't wear- but because she knows that I have undoubtedly thought about my outfit weeks before and that I am dying to talk about it with someone. (Should I wear my brown heels or my yellow flats?)
6. She lets me ask her disgusting medical questions that only a mother would discuss with me. (Is this funny lookin' thing NORMAL?!?)
5. She knows how many cups are in a quart, how much sauce I should add to my lasagna, and if I can bake a regular cake mix in a bunt pan.
4. She listen to me- no matter how long I drone on and on. And when I apologize that I'm going on forever and that I'm being selfish with the conversation, she tells me she likes it.
3. She knows the right things to say.
2. She knows how to love.
1. She is an example of the woman I hope to become someday.
I love you Mom! Happy Mother's Day! .....and I think I found the perfect belt to wear to Allen's wedding!

The Sound of Music

The description that came with this video says:

More than 200 dancers were performing their version of Do Re Mi, in the Central Station of Antwerp. with just 2 rehearsals they created this amazing stunt! Those 4 fantastic minutes started the 23 of march 2009, 8:00 AM. It is a promotion stunt for a Belgian television program, where they are looking for someone to play the leading role, in the musical of The Sound of Music.

Advice Needed

Dear Blogging Friends,

I am looking for secret cleaning weapons. No matter what I do to try to clean our old tub, it's still that disgusting grey color. Any ideas? Do you have any other cleaning tips? I'm talking about those heavy-duty-wear-a-gas-mask type cleaning products or techniques that will destroy all germs in its path. I'm in need. It's frightening.

A PFO was confirmed

JD went to get another bubble study done yesterday and that did confirm that there is a hole.

The way the bubble study works is that they shake up a bunch of saline until it is made up of bubbles and the shoot it into his vein. Then they look at the heart to see if bubbles are going from one side of his heart to the other, which it did and which is not good. JD was able to see for himself the bubbles traveling through his heart. That image has definitely convinced him that just an aspirin regimen is not an option.

So there we are. When we find out more I'll post more about it. This is kind of therapeutic...
